On the ground. All the traditional
houses of Cambodia in all the regions are built on stilts. That
it is in easily flooded region or in altitude region which will
be never flooded by rivers but where the rains of monsoon can
be very strong. Several reasons in it, wild animals and snakes
which can not easily get into the heightened houses , and the
fact that the house on stilts, made shadow during all the part
of the dry and very warm seasons and allows to shelter there
of hot spells while being in the air and becomes a place of life
outdoors shielded from the house, where the family can install
hammocks outdoors in the shadow during the day. The bottom of
the house, is also use in the country to install working tools--
In the regions lining the Tonle Sap lake,
houses are sometimes situated at more than 6 metres in height,
which are the heights of fluctuation in the level of the lake.
Lakes and rivers: houses on the water are
constructed either on boats, or on ballcocks of bamboo or tins. |
